Start with a sweet and crunchy family favorite- - corn. If you are lucky enough to live by a corn field, go pick your own. This can be a great family activity or a rare chance to get in touch with the growers that make this summer staple fresh and sweet. One of my favorite ways to have cobbed corn is to grill it. Place the whole cobs (unpeeled, husks and all) on the grate and turn frequently to prevent burning. Once cooled, peel and slather with a bit of herbed butter, jalapeno honey, or go old school and simply sprinkle with a bit of salt.
Take burgers to the next level by using premium cuts of beef with smokey fresh chorizo. The paprika adds a tang and depth of flavor that will turn your weekend barbecue into a burger bash. Top with caramelized onions, whole grain mustard, homemade pickles, or any combination of your favorite ‘fixins’. Nothing says summer like a juicy homemade burger. Think ‘outside the bun’ and take it into a different and more flavorful direction.
And for dessert, you can either be bad, or be terrible. Grilled firm fruit is an absolute wonder when it’s heated on the grill. A quick brush of melted butter and a sprinkle of brown sugar will pamper your taste buds without feeling guilty. But for the naughty dessert lovers, there’s only one way to go…. S’mores! Instead of the traditional grahams, start with a slice of moist Kahlua cake, top with a dollop of Flavor Fusion Raspberry Cocoa Dessert Sauce, and crown with a roasted giant marshmallow. Does it get any better than this? I think not.
Think about these food ideas and how you like to entertain during the summer months.
Get inspired.
Get out of the culinary rut.
Get outside.
Get messy….it’s ok, it’s summer!
Happy Eating!
